JLBE1619 | Thinking 101: Strawman Argument Logical Fallacy

In this video I address the simple but important concept of the ‘strawman argument’, the logical fallacy whereby one person misrepresents another person’s position on a given topic or issue, in order to make it easier to attack that person’s position or overall credibility. The use of strawman arguments is a very common tactic in debates both on and offline, and those who employ these logical fallacies may not even be aware they are doing it. By the end of this video, you will understand what a strawman argument is, why certain people employ them, and how to avoid using this tactic yourself.
