Don’t know if this has come up but in Estonia “1984” and “Animal Farm” are in the list of mandatory literature in public schools. At least they were when I was there back in the 90s and they definitely still were in the list a few years ago. So I assume they still are.
I’m curios to know wheather the case is the same in other parts of the world?
When I was at school Animal Farm was on the school reading list but not 1984.
In the system in the UK at the time, this did not make it mandatory. Teachers had to choose a certain number from a setlist.
We also had to do one of Shakespeare’s plays
